Poka-Yio

Born and living in Athens Greece, artist, curator and educator Poka-Yio works with a diversity of media ranging from painting and sculpture to theatre and short films. With a degree from Athens School of Fine Arts Painting and MA in Digital Media, Poka-Yio has been creating projects in which the personal and the public become politically entangled in a perpetual oscillation between attraction and aversion.

The culture of desire and the lamentation of a lost innocence at the deathbed of the era of Western consumerism is the ongoing theme connecting Poka-Yio’s works.  From his early antifascist works, to his scatological series and the portraits of politicians, managers and desserts to the SneakerHead series of lonely shoes, figurative objects are rendered as libidinal subjects.
